Our Guidance Officer is a teacher with specialist training and qualifications in guidance, counselling and psycho-educational assessment. The Guidance Officer works at the school on a full time basis, assisting students to achieve learning outcomes and reach their potential in the educational setting.

This involves working with students and their parents or caregivers, often in conjunction with teachers, specialist support personnel and other community agencies. The Guidance Officer may identify factors that can be barriers to learning and development, and plan or assist in planning interventions or programs that can help students achieve positive outcomes.

Activities of a Guidance Officer may include amongst others:

  • assessing students' developmental levels and abilities

  • considering educational adjustment

  • assessing students' educational placement and specialist support needs

  •  providing individual counselling in response to personal, social and emotional needs

  • helping students manage relationships and behavioural difficulties.

  • assisting students and their families access support from a community agency.

Students may self-refer or may be referred by parents or their teachers. Parents may refer their child by phoning the Guidance Officer directly or by making contact through the school office or their child’s teacher. All referrals are prioritized. Parents/carers may also request assistance or information for themselves.
